Inmates Visitation

Visits and Consular Access to Prison Institution


Communications between prisoners and their Embassies/Consular Office, relatives and friends shall be allowed subject to such restrictions as may be necessary for the maintenance of discipline and good order in prison, and the prevention of crime and no other person shall be allowed to communicate with a prisoner except by special authority, and no prisoner shall hold any sort of unauthorised communication with any person. Procedures Visits and Consular Access to Prison Institution as below:

• Embassy must submit an official application and document earlier (at least 3 days prior to visit)

• No special / surprise visit is allowed

• Lawyers appointed by the Embassy should possess a legal practice certificate & letter from the Embassy

• Embassy officials are subjected to security procedures, including body, document and other search

• Person making an official visit must be employed by the embassy hold an ID from the embassy

• All visitors must specify their name and designation/position in the Embassy and relation with inmate or any other information as required by the Prisons Department

• Visitors must be properly dressed

• Visitors may give permissible food and other basic necessity to inmates by purchasing them from the inmate canteen

• Visitors are not permitted to give money, documents, letters to the inmates, it has to be done through the prison authority.

• Contrabands as stipulated in the prison regulation is not allowed
